Module 3 ~ Position Yourself In The Market

Part 1 - Miscellaneous (10 mins)
  • Discussion on class replacement on 1st May 2008 (Labour Day), being replaced on 24th April 08, Thursday from 1 pm to 5pm. School breaks start on 5th May 08 until 18th May 08.
  • There will another replacement class for 24th Mar 08, to be replaced in June, date to be discussed after semester break. I am looking into the space between your final exam and other major assignments submition date.

Carrefour as a pioneer in operating hypermarket since 90's, how Carrefour position itself ?

  • Look into the Carrefour catalogue that I had distributed, what message you receive?
  • How Carrefour want your to perceive its values?
  • What is being highlighted again and again in almost every pages?
  • What is the tag line that you could remember when link-up with Carrefour?
  • What values do you buy from Carrefour compare to some other hypermarkets in town, such as Giant and Tesco?
Discussion on positioning - 2 mins discussion in the group of 3 -4 person

Part 4 - Communicate Through Resume / Curriculum Vitae Writing (5 mins)
  • Why the resume/CV need to be in written format, why not verbal?
  • Why write yourself and no others?
  • What is the effectiveness of communications through verbal and written?
  • How to reach out from you to the target audience?
  • How communications break downs happen?

Part 5 - Rules On Creating Resume (25 mins)
  • What are the basic ruling (Page 12) in creating an effective resume to position "me" on my dream work?

  • What is the right job for me? What is my best fit? (Page 7 & 8)
  • Introduction to different types of resume (Page 10 - 11)

Module 2 ~ Preparation Of CV

Content To Module 2 : Preparation Of Curriculum Vitae
  1. Introduction To Curriculum Vitae.
  • What is CV? (Résumé, Profile, Biodata etc...)

  • Why using CV to communicate?

Game : 45 mins

Each individual has 30 second to present on selling a dream to the class. Participants objective is to sell themselves, their dream, be it as job seekers that looking for employer or business ideas that looking for funders/investors.



Debrief : 20 mins

  1. How many candidates managed to open a door to achieve their dream?

  2. How many offer letters obtained? How many failed?

  3. Why some of the candidates successful and some are not?

  4. What is the secret behind the 30 second presentation?

  5. What approaches that helps to catch the interest of audiences (the buyers)?


Real life example : I used Maggie Mee as an example because almost everyone eat Maggie Mee so far, I have not know anyone who do not eat Maggie Mee yet, so far)

  1. Why buy Maggie Mee besides the price?
  2. How Maggie Mee position itself and how the manufacturer - the Nestle want you to perceived Maggie Mee?
  3. What is the tag line that sells? eg : Nike : Just Do It, How about Adidas and Reebok?
  4. What Maggie Mee advertisement sell to you?
  5. What message you receive after watching the 28 second Maggie Mee advertisement?
  6. What are the weaknesses on Maggie Mee that the manufacturer do not disclose? Do you know what are the non supportive about instatnt noodles? Why the facts are not disclose on the packaging?
  • We discuss about the ratio of being hired or an idea successfully sold to someone else.
  • How to write an effective CV to position yourself in the market place?
  • What are the individual strengths that contribute and in alignment of the dream (the end results) and the being (something that passionate with)
  • Supporting documents that add values to individual CV (Letters of recommendation, References, Testimonials)

Module 1 ~ Self Assessment : SWOT

Overall setting - 20 mins

  • Learning technique - Super Learning technique (left and right brain), using colors and music, games simulations and debriefs.

  • Tour guide system - The class is open to coaching and mentoring with interactions and group discussions.

  • Space setting and sitting arrangement will be Zen towards centralise and synergies with the every objects.

  • Expectations from the institute - general ruling on MIA for absenteeism.
    "The only FAILURE is the FAILURE to participate"

  • Introduction to facilitator and participants, name and brief introductions on individual background, expectation from participants.

Content To Module 1 : Self Assessment - Realising SWOT

  1. Introduction and implementation to SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
  2. Introduction to 360 Degree Feedback
  3. DISC Personality Assessment (Get Free Simplified DISC Report)
    Tools needed :
    Flip chart papers for each participant, colorful marker, colorful 3 inch square Post-it notes, blue-tag/masking tape, stop watch.
  4. Setting : Think yourself as a detector by using magnifier (放大镜) to see yourself on SWOT.
    Self assessment on SWOT - 10 mins
    360 degree feedback from others - 2o mins
    DISC simplify report - 20 mins
  5. Debrief - 20 mins
  • Limitations on SWOT - Everyone has their own "REALITY" box, I think I am..., which my belief tell me that I am.... It may not be true. An individual must be able to see and think out of the box and access to possibilities

  • Understanding self assessment tools - DISC, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Harrison Inner View lots MORE...It helps for knowing where I am and moving forward to where I want it to be.

  • "Clarity Leads to POWER"

  • Rule - Must bring the SWOT work out every week.
